The 2020-21 DCYHA Mini-Mite Division is open to boys and girls with birth years 2014 and after. There is no minimum age but children are expected to be able to stand up from a fallen position, on ice, in full hockey gear.
To register, click on the green "Register Here" button on the right of this page and follow the instructions. All players must be registered before they will be allowed on the ice. This policy is STRICTLY ENFORCED.
The fee for the Mini-Mite 20120-21 season is $150. USA Hockey membership registration is required prior to registration. Players born in 2014 and later do not pay a USA Hockey membership fee but are required to register with USA Hockey at www.usahockeyregistration.com (this link is also provided during the registration process).
Team Game Jerseys/Socks
Mini-mites are not required to purchase jerseys/socks but purchasing the home red jersey is highly recommended, and purchasing both is not discouraged. The jerseys fit most players for several years. Jerseys cost $50 each. Socks are $10/pair, and while encouraged are not required. Jersey and sock orders can be placed during online the registration process.
The season starts approximately in mid-September or early October, and typically runs through the first of March. Players in the Mini-Mite Division get one hour of ice time per week at practice, with additional ice time at Saturday games or scrimmages as often as possible. Mini-Mites practice most Fridays at 5:45 with the Mite Division players. Players are split into similar skill level for maximum learning, safety, and enjoyment. The Mini-Mite division is technically a practice-only division. Saturday games are scheduled against other organizations' Mini-Mite players as often as possible.
Schedules for both practices and games will be posted as far in advance as possible. All schedules will be available on the team page on the DCYHA website. Please check the site routinely for possible schedule changes that may occur throughout the season. Team Managers will do their best to notify teams via email/phone as necessary.
Cross Ice Games
DCYHA follows the American Development Model (ADM). Under the ADM, Mini-Mites (6 years old & Under) play cross-ice games. Cross-ice games have been found to be very effective for teaching hockey skill to Mite age players. The kids also enjoy more puck touches, more passing, more shooting, more goals. Mini-Mites play with small, mini-mite sized goals and no goalies.
If you are interested in coaching the Mini-Mite players, please complete the coaching registration found on the main registration page. Contact the Mite Director or Coaching Director with questions. All coaches must go through background screening, USA Hockey Safe Sport Training, USA Hockey Coaching Certification and have completed the Mite (8U) age-specific coaching module through USA Hockey, Inc. Mini-Mite coaches may coach with an expired certification of any level, however, the Mite age-specific module must be completed.
